virgin.net email is closing: how to move your emails

Quick answer

virgin.net addresses are moving to Junara with the rest of Virgin Media's email. To leave, make a Virgin Media Mail app password, then copy every folder to Gmail or iCloud. The original dates and read/unread status can be kept.

@virgin.net is one of the four Virgin Media email domains moving to Junara, alongside ntlworld.com, blueyonder.co.uk and virginmedia.com (Virgin Media O2). If you're switching to Gmail or iCloud instead, here's how to bring your emails with you.

Step 1: make a Virgin Media Mail app password

Any tool that reads your virgin.net mailbox needs an app password, not your My Virgin Media password. Create it in the My Virgin Media app: Account settings › Account details › Virgin Media Mail › Manage › Generate new App password. Full guide.

Step 2: get your new account ready

Step 3: copy the emails

Quickest: Keep My Emails scans your virgin.net mailbox for free, then copies every folder, with original dates and read/unread status, to your new account for £14.99 one-time, including a downloadable backup.

Free but manual: add both accounts to Thunderbird using IMAP and drag folders across. Server for virgin.net: imap.virginmedia.com, port 993, SSL, with your full email address as the username.

After the move
