Virgin Media email stopped working after the move to Junara?

Quick answer

If your mailbox has moved to Junara, your mail app needs Junara's settings: incoming server imap.junara.com, port 993, SSL, your full email address as the username, and your Junara password or app-specific password. Still on Virgin? Use imap.virginmedia.com with a Virgin Media Mail app password.

When a Virgin Media mailbox moves to Junara, mail apps that were set up years ago, such as iPhone Mail, Outlook and Thunderbird, can stop receiving mail or keep asking for a password. Usually only the server names and the password need changing.

First: has your mailbox moved?

If you signed up with Junara and got its confirmation, your mailbox has moved, so use the Junara settings below. If you haven't signed up, you're still on Virgin Media, so use the Virgin settings. Webmail still working is a good sign that the account is fine and only the app needs updating.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings › Apps › Mail › Mail Accounts (older versions: Settings › Mail › Accounts) and tap your Virgin account.
  2. Tap the account address, then update Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server host names and passwords from the table.
  3. Tap Done. If it won't verify, delete the account and add it again with Other › Add Mail Account.

Outlook on Windows

  1. Go to File › Account Settings › Account Settings, pick the Virgin account and choose Repair or Change.
  2. Enter the incoming and outgoing servers, ports and password from the table, then Next.

Thunderbird

  1. Right-click the account, choose Settings › Server Settings, and change the server name.
  2. For sending, go to Outgoing Server (SMTP) and edit the Virgin entry.
  3. Restart Thunderbird and enter the new password when asked.

Android and the Gmail app

In the Gmail app, open Settings, tap the Virgin account, then Account settings › Incoming / Outgoing settings and change the servers and password. If there's no option, remove the account and add it again as Other.

"Keeps asking for my password"

That nearly always means the app is using an old password. After the move, a Virgin Media Mail app password won't work at Junara, and your normal Junara password won't work if you turned on an app-specific password. Make a fresh one and paste it in.

Rather leave than fix it?

If you'd rather not keep paying for the old address, you can copy every email out to Gmail, Outlook or iCloud before your deadline. See how to move your Virgin Media email to Gmail.

Questions people ask

Why does my email keep asking for my password?

Usually because the app still uses an old password or the old server. After moving to Junara, update the server names and the password in the app's account settings.

Is Virgin Media email down?

Check Virgin Media's service status page. If webmail works but your app doesn't, it's the app's settings or password, not an outage.
