Is blueyonder email closing? How to keep your address or your old emails
blueyonder.co.uk addresses are part of Virgin Media's email move to Junara. Keep the address by moving to Junara, or copy every old email to Gmail, iCloud or a download before your deadline, about 165 days after your first letter.
@blueyonder.co.uk addresses go back to the Telewest days, and many hold decades of family emails, photos and receipts. Virgin Media is now handing its email service to a new provider, Junara, and blueyonder addresses are included (Virgin Media O2 announcement). If you don't act, the account is eventually deleted.
Keeping the address vs keeping the emails
- To keep the blueyonder address, you need to move to Junara. It's free for 12 months for current Virgin customers (99p transfer fee); former customers pay a Junara plan straight away. More on Junara's prices.
- To keep the emails but not the address, copy them to Gmail, iCloud or another provider, or download them to your computer. This works whether or not you go to Junara, and it's a good backup either way.
How to keep every old email
- Create a Virgin Media Mail app password in the My Virgin Media app. Step-by-step guide.
- Choose where the emails should go:
- Copy them. You can do it by hand with Thunderbird (free, slow for big mailboxes), or let Keep My Emails copy every folder with its original dates for a one-off fee.
Older blueyonder settings you may find online
Old guides mention servers like imap4.blueyonder.co.uk. Virgin Media's current help lists imap.virginmedia.com
(port 993, SSL) for all its addresses, with a Virgin Media Mail app password
(Virgin Media help).
Helping a parent or grandparent?
Blueyonder users are often older relatives who may not have seen Virgin's letters. Sit with them, check for the official message (it contains no clickable links), create the app password in the My Virgin Media app together, and copy their emails before anything else.
