Is ntlworld email closing? What to do before your account is deleted
Yes, in its current form. ntlworld.com addresses are moving to Junara. You can move with it (free for a year for current Virgin customers) or copy your emails elsewhere. If you do nothing, the account is deleted about 165 days after your first letter.
If you have an @ntlworld.com address, your email service is changing. On 9 September 2026 Virgin Media O2 announced that it is handing its old email service (ntlworld.com, blueyonder.co.uk, virgin.net and virginmedia.com) to a provider called Junara, owned by Atmail.
Your three options
- Move to Junara and keep your ntlworld address. Current Virgin broadband, landline or TV customers get the first 12 months free (a 99p transfer fee applies); customers who've told Virgin they need extra support get 18 months. Former customers have to take a paid Junara plan. What Junara costs.
- Download your emails and move to another provider, such as Gmail or iCloud. Your ntlworld address stops working, but you keep every email.
- Close the account. Save anything you need first.
When does it happen?
Virgin is writing to customers in phases, starting in September 2026. From your first message you have at least 45 days to decide, then a further 120-day window to recover the account. After 165 days with no action the account is permanently deleted. The deadline explained.
What to do this week
- Check you're not looking at a scam. Virgin says its messages about this change contain no clickable sign-up links. Ignore any message asking for your password or card details.
- Make a copy of your emails, whatever you decide. Virgin offers no "download everything" button: only one email at a time, or contacts as a CSV file. How to download every email.
- List the accounts that use your ntlworld address (bank, HMRC, GP, energy, shopping) and update them if you're leaving.
Old ntlworld mailboxes are often huge
Many ntlworld accounts are 15-25 years old. Large mailboxes can push you into a pricier Junara storage tier, and copying them by hand takes hours. If you're moving to Gmail, iCloud or another provider, Keep My Emails copies every folder for you and shows exactly what's in your mailbox before you pay anything.
Questions people ask
Can I still use my ntlworld email?
Yes, until your deadline. After that, only if you've moved the address to Junara.
What happens to my ntlworld emails if I leave Virgin?
They're deleted with the account unless you copy them first, for example to Gmail or a download.
Keep every email, in a few minutes
